Product Details

Accolate (Zafirlukast) is a prescription medication that is used for the prevention and long term treatment of asthma in patients 5 years old and older. This medication helps make breathing easier by reducing swelling in the airways. If you use this medication regularly, it will improve your ability to exercise and decrease the number of times you will need to use your rescue inhaler. Zafirlukast works by blocking the activity of natural substance (leukotrienes) that may cause asthma. This medication does not work right away and should not be used to treat sudden asthma attacks. Accolate will not stop an asthma attack once it has started.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, rhinitis, sore throat. The serious side effects may include:
• Dark urine;
• Persistent nausea or vomiting;
• Severe stomach or abdominal pain;
• Unusual tiredness;
• Yellowing of the eyes/skin

You should not take Accolate if you are allergic to Zafirlukast or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. This medication should only be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. This medication passes into breast milk. You should not breast-feed while you are taking this medication. There may an interaction between Zafirlukast and other medications such as aripiprazole, carvedilol, erythromycin, fluoxetine, irbesartan, losartan, montelukast, omeprazole, tamoxifen, warfarin, etc.
