Usage

Emadine eye drops (Emadastine) is a prescription medication used to treat the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis. Allergic conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the conjunctiva, the tissue covering the inside of the eyelids and the white part of the eyeballs. Exposure to pollen, grass, and other airborne allergens is the cause of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. Indoor allergens like mold spores, dust, and animal dander cause perennial allergic conjunctivitis. Emadine eye drops relieve redness, itching, and swelling. The active ingredient in Emadine is Emadastine. Emadastine belongs to a group of drugs called antihistamines. It works by blocking the effects of histamine, a natural substance the body produces when it detects something harmful, like an infection. Emadine only works for allergy symptoms. It is not for treating redness and irritation from wearing contact lenses.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Emadine eye drops are headache, temporary blurred vision, dry eyes, eye discomfort, and a bad taste in your mouth.

Stop using Emadine eye drops and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Breathing difficulties;
• Dizziness;
• Eye irritation;
• Itching or swelling of face, tongue, or throat;
• Rash;
• Swallowing difficulties;
• Tightness in the chest or throat;
• Unusual hoarseness

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Emadine eye drops if you are allergic to Emadastine or any of the ingredients in Emadine eye drops. It would be best to use Emadine eye drops precisely as your doctor prescribed. Wash your hands before and after using the eye drops. Take out your contact lenses before using Emadine eye drops. You can put your lenses back 10 minutes after applying the eye drops. Do not wear contact lenses if your eyes are red, irritated, or infected. After using the medication, close your eyes and put pressure on the inner corner of your eye. Do this for 1 to 2 minutes to keep the drug in your eye. Do not touch the container tip to your eye, lid, or skin. Avoid driving or other tasks that need clear eyesight. Before you start using Emadine eye drops, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are over 65 years of age;
• Have allergies to antihistamines;
• Have kidney or liver problems;
• Wear soft contact lenses

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Emadine eye drops should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. It is not known if Emadine ophthalmic passes into breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. There may be a drug interaction between Emadastine and other medications.
