Usage

Permethrin (Permethrin) is a topical prescription medication used to treat scabies, tiny insects that infest and irritates the body. The mite lives on the skin and burrows into it. Scabies is contagious and spread to others through close skin-to-skin contact. The hand is the most common site to be first affected, probably from prolonged hand-holding with an infected person. Permethrin is the active constituent of the cream. Permethrin belongs to a class of drugs known as Scabicidal Agents. It works by paralyzing and killing lice and their eggs (nits).

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Permethrin are body itching, redness, swelling, temporary worsening of the condition with Permethrin, mild and transient burning and stinging.

Stop using Permethrin and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Continued itching of the fingers, especially at night;
• Continued irritation of the skin or scalp area;
• Infected or pus-filled areas of the skin or scalp area;
• Severe body itching;
• Worsening of the condition

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Permethrin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or have any other allergies. Permethrin is a topical cream and should be applied on the skin only. Avoid getting Permethrin in your nose, ears, mouth, vagina, or eyes. If the cream gets in any of these areas, flush with plenty of water. Do not use more medication than prescribed. A single treatment can help prevent lice for up to 14 days. After treatment with Permethrin, your doctor may recommend that a dermatologist check you for lice and nits using a magnifying glass and bright light. Reach out to your doctor if the symptoms get worse. Before you start using Permethrin, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Asthma or respiratory disease;
• kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Skin infections;
• Skin cancer

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk but it is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Permethrin has no known severe, serious, moderate, or mild interactions with other drugs. However, you should contact your doctor before using any topical medication with Permethrin cream.
