Dosage

The generic Westcort is available in the strength of 0.2 %/15 gm, 0.2 %/45 gm, and 0.2 %/60 gm cream.

Usage

Westcort cream is a prescription cream used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash. Hydrocortisone valerate is a medium strength corticosteroid. It works by calming the body's immune response to reduce pain, redness, itching, swelling and other discomfort caused by skin conditions.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body) and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Westcort include stinging, burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness at the application site.

Contact your doctor if you notice any serious side effects such as:
• Acne;
• Extreme or unwanted hair growth;
• Hair bumps;
• Skin discoloration or thinning;
• Stretch marks

Rarely, this medication can absorb through the skin into the bloodstream. Call your doctor if you notice any side effects such as:
• Extreme or unusual tiredness;
• Headache;
• Increased thirst or urination;
• Swelling ankles or feet;
• Vision problems;
• Weight loss

Warnings and Interactions

Do not use Westcort cream if you are allergic to Hydrocortisone valerate or to other corticosteroids such as Prednisone or Triamcinolone or to any of the ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history especially if you have:
• Diabetes;
• Immune system problems;
• Poor blood circulation

You should not use Westcort cream if there is an infection or sore in the area to be treated. Tell your doctor if you have used corticosteroids within the past few months and about all the medications you use including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Hydrocortisone valerate and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
