Zaxine Information

Zaxine Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Zaxine from Canada manufactured by Lupin Pharma. The generic version is not available. Our customers may also purchase other Antibiotic medications such as Amoxil and Cipro.

Dosage

Zaxine is available in the strength of 550 mg tablets only.

Usage

Zaxine (Rifaximin) is a prescription medication used to treat irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) and reduce the risk of hepatic encephalopathy recurrence in adults. The active ingredient in Zaxine is Rifaximin. Rifaximin belongs to the class of medication called antibacterial agents (specifically rifamycin antibacterial). It works by reducing the number of bacteria and bacterial products in the gut, which can help improve symptoms of bloating, stomach pain, and diarrhea. It is beneficial in treating hepatic encephalopathy by inhibiting the growth of enteric ammonia-producing bacteria by reducing serum ammonia levels.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Zaxine are flatulence, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, defecation urgency and rectal tenesmus, joint pain.

Stop using Zaxine and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing;
• Hives;
• Hoarseness;
• Itching;
• Persistent diarrhea;
• Rash;
• Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs;
• Signs of bowel inflammation (e.g., fever that appears after starting the medication, watery and severe diarrhoea (may also be bloody);
• Signs of a severe allergic reaction (e.g., abdominal cramps, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting, or swelling of the face and throat);
• Watery or bloody diarrhea that may occur along with stomach cramps and fever during your treatment or for two months afterwards

Do not use anti-diarrhea or opioid medications if you have any of these symptoms because these products may make them worse. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Zaxine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Rifaximin or to other rifamycins (rifampin, rifabutin); or if you have any other allergies. This medication must be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Before you start using Zaxine, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Allergies to Rifaximin;
• Breastfeeding;
• Serious liver problems;
• Pregnant or think you are pregnant

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Zaxine can harm the unborn baby.
