Generic name: Pioglitazone/Metform
Use: Diabetes

Actoplus Met, which is a drug used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes. Metformin and pioglitazone are the two active ingredients, which are both oral diabetes drugs. They work together by helping to control blood sugar levels in the body. Diabetes is most common in those over the age of 40 and those who are overweight. It differs from the XR version, as the XR version is an extended release drug. We currently have brand Takeda Actoplus Met (15/850 mg) and generic Pioglitazone/Metform (15/500 mg and 30/500 mg) available in stock.

Actoplus Met Side Effects

The possible Actoplus Met side effects include:
• Headache;
• Sneezing, runny nose, cough and other cold symptoms;
• Upset stomach, diarrhea;

More serious side effects may include:
• Feeling short of breath, especially when lying down;
• Low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine and jaundice;
• Pale skin, feeling light headed, fast heart rate, difficulty breathing ;
• Stomach pain, blood in urine, painful urination;
• Swelling/rapid weight gain;

Actoplus Met Safety in Pregnancy and Children

Before purchasing, tell your doctor if you have any of the following medical conditions:
• Bladder cancer;
• Eye problems caused by diabetes;
• Heart failure, heart disease or history of heart attack;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver disease;
• Metabolic acidosis.

Actoplus Met is in pregnancy category C (studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus). You must discuss the risks and benefits of using Actoplus Met if you are pregnant or breastfeeding with your doctor. Actoplus Met has not been studied in children and therefore it is not recommended in children under the age of 18. If you are over the age of 80, you must discuss using Actoplus with your doctor as other health complications may occur.
