Xiidra (Lifitegrast) is a prescription medication that is used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. Lifitegrast belongs to the class of medications called anti-inflammatory agents. It is unclear how exactly Lifitegrast works but it prevents the production of certain chemicals in the eye that lead to inflammation and dry eyes.

There are no serious side effects of this medication. A serious allergic reaction to this medication is very rare. See your doctor right away if you notice any symptoms of an allergic reaction such as itching or swelling, rash, severe dizziness and trouble breathing. The common side effects may include:
• Blurred vision;
• Eye irritation or pain when you put the drops in the eye;
• Headache;
• Increased tears;
• Itchy eyes;
• Red eyes;
• Sensitivity to light;
• Unpleasant taste

You should not use Xiidra if you are allergic to Lifitegrast or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. It is unknown if Lifitegrast passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before you breastfeed a baby.
