Usage

Compound W (Wart Removal System) is an over-the-counter medication used to treat common skin and foot warts. Warts are benign (non-cancerous) growths that can develop on the skin and are caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). The drug is also used to remove corns and calluses. Do not use Compound W on the face or moles, birthmarks, warts with hair growing from them, or genital warts. The active ingredient in Compound W is the Wart Removal System. Wart Removal System belongs to a class of drugs called keratolytics. It works by increasing skin moisture and dissolving the substance that makes skin cells stick together. This leads to easier shedding of skin.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Compound W are mild burning, skin peeling, and skin redness.

Stop using Compound W and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as wheezing, hives, itching, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Signs of an infection, such as pus and bloody discharge;
• Sores at treatment site;
• Spreading skin redness

Warnings and Interactions

Before using the Wart Removal System, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Compound W comes as pads, spray, and liquid and should be applied topically (on the skin) as directed by your doctor. Please do not take it by mouth. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. If the medication gets into these areas, flush with plenty of water. Soften the affected area by soaking the corn, callus, or wart in warm water for about 5 minutes. Dry thoroughly. You may need to use a pumice stone, callus file, or emery board to carefully remove the layers of dead skin before applying the medication. Removing dead skin will help the medication work better. Do not try to rub the wart or callus off. If you are using the liquid form of this medicine, use the applicator to apply a few drops or a thin coat to cover the wart, corn, or callus. Avoid applying this medication to the surrounding skin. Let it dry for 5 minutes. Repeat this procedure 1 to 2 times daily for up to 2 weeks for corns and calluses and 12 weeks for warts or as directed by your doctor. If you are using a medicated pad, you may need to cut it so that it covers the treatment area completely but does not touch the surrounding skin. Peel off the protective covering and place the pad over the affected area. Leave in place. Remove and place a new pad as directed by your doctor. Repeat this procedure for up to 2 weeks for corns and calluses and 12 weeks for warts. If you are using the Freeze Off, lightly press the foam applicator for several seconds on the wart to be frozen. Do not swab. Apply the Freeze Off immediately. Hold the foam applicator on common warts for 20 seconds or less. Smaller warts may require less than 20 seconds. Discard the foam applicator after a single use, and do not touch it with bare hands to ensure that re-infection with the wart virus does not occur. Wash your hands after use. The Compound W Freeze Off is extremely flammable. Keep away from fire or flame and sources of sparks or ignition. If your condition persists, consult your doctor.

Before you start using Compound W, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Become pregnant or nursing a child;
• Have a skin infection;
• Have blood circulation problems;
• Have diabetes;
• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver disease

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Compound W will harm your unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not breastfeed when using the Wart Removal System. It is unknown if this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Compound W and other drugs, such as other topical medications, etc.
