Dosage

The brand Dermotic is available in the strength of 20 ml ear drops. The generic Fluocinolone is not available.

Usage

Dermotic (Fluocinolone) is a prescription medication used to treat itchy ears and redness resulting from eczema of the outer ear. This condition causes the skin around the ear to become dry, itchy and inflamed. It can affect the earlobes, the area outside the ear hole, and the ear canal. Infections, allergies, skin conditions, and earwax buildup can cause eczema of the outer ear. The active ingredient in Dermotic is Fluocinolone. Fluocinolone belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids. It suppresses the immune response to reduce inflammation, itching, and skin redness.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Dermotic are stinging, redness, and burning at the application site, acne, skin lightening, and mild ear irritation.

Stop using Dermotic and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Ear infections;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as wheezing, hives, itching, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Skin thinning;
• Stretch marks

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Fluocinolone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Dermotic comes as ear drops and should be applied in the ears only. Please do not take it by mouth. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. If the medication gets into these areas, rinse with plenty of water. Wash your hands before applying this medicine. Lie on your side or tilt the affected ear upwards. Hold the dropper above your ear and use the prescribed number of drops into your ears. You may use this medication twice daily or as directed by your doctor. Hold your earlobe up and back to let the drops roll into your ears. If you use this medicine for a child, hold their earlobe down and back to let the drips roll in. Keep the head tilted briefly, or insert a soft cotton plug. Remove the plug after one minute. Repeat for the other ear if your doctor directs. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap your ears unless your doctor tells you to. After using the ear drops, replace the cap. Do not rinse the dropper. Please do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your ear or any other surface to prevent contamination. Use Dermotic regularly to get the most benefit from it. Use the medicine at the same time each day to help you remember. Inform your doctor if your symptoms persist or worsen after 2 weeks.

Before you start using Dermotic, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Have a perforated eardrum;
• Have an allergy to peanut oil;
• Have an infection

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this medicine in pregnancy with your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Fluocinolone passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. There may be a drug interaction between Dermotic and other drugs, such as aldesleukin, other topic corticosteroids, other topical medications, etc.
