Descovy (Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Alafenamide Fumarate) is a combined prescription medicine used in combination with other antiretroviral medications to treat and prevent HIV-1 infections in adults and children who weigh more than 25 kg. The active ingredients in Descovy are Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Alafenamide Fumarate. Emtricitabine belongs to a class of medication called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), and tenofovir alafenamide is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI). It reduces the viral load and increases the number of T cells (CD4+). Lowering the amount of HIV in the blood lowers the chance of death or infections due to a weakened immune system.

The common side effects of Descovy are diarrhea, nausea, headache, fatigue, and abdominal pain.
