Imunovir (Inosine Pranobex) is prescribed to treat the conditions of herpes virus infections, warts on the genitals, and a rare complication of measles called subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE).

Common side effects may include increased uric acid in the blood and urine, which may cause gout or kidney stones.

The serious side effects may include:

• Discomfort of the stomach
• Drowsiness
• Fatigue
• Headache
• Increased liver enzymes and blood urea nitrogen
• Insomnia
• Itching and skin rashes
• Nausea (with or without vomiting)
• Nervousness
• Painful joints
• Signs of allergic reaction
• Vertigo

You should not use Imunovir if you are allergic to Inosine Pranobex, or if you have celiac disease.

Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications.

You should not use Imunovir while pregnant or nursing, as there can be adverse effects for the baby. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, thinking of becoming pregnant, or are nursing.

The usual dose of Imunovir is:
• Herpes Simplex: 2 tablets, 4x daily for 7-14 days
• Genital Warts: 2 tablets, 3x daily for 14-28 days

Take your Imunovir tablet orally with or without food.

Store Imunovir in its original container at room temperature – away from heat, moisture, and light.

There may be an interaction between Imunovir and other medications. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Imunovir.

To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Celiac Disease
• Gout
• High levels of uric acid in the blood
• Kidney problems

Answer: Imunovir contains wheat starch and is not suitable to those with wheat allergies.

3. What is subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE)?
