Invokana at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

Invokana, manufactured by Janssen-Cilag (a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, also known as Janssen), is available in Canada, India, and the United Kingdom.

Generic Invokana is currently unavailable (at this pharmacy).

Dosage:

Brand Invokana is commonly available in strengths of 100 and 300 mg tablets.

Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose based on your individual needs.

Usage:

Invokana (canagliflozin) is a prescription medication indicated for glycemic control in adults and children aged 10 years and older with type 2 diabetes mellitus, used adjunctively to diet and exercise. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established, pre-existing cardiovascular disease. Additionally, it is indicated to reduce the risk of end-stage kidney disease, worsening of kidney function, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy with albuminuria. Invokana is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or for glycemic control in patients with severe renal impairment.

Mechanism of Action:
Invokana (canagliflozin) is a selective inhibitor of sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) in the proximal renal tubule. By inhibiting SGLT2, canagliflozin reduces renal reabsorption of filtered glucose, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion and a subsequent decrease in plasma glucose levels. This mechanism also contributes to mild osmotic diuresis and potential weight loss.

It is crucial to take Invokana exactly as your doctor prescribes and read the product monograph in Canada. Consult your doctor for personalized guidance and safe use.

Side Effects:

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions. Before taking Invokana, it is essential to discuss all possible side effects, risks, and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects – These are examples of some common side effects of Invokana, but others are possible. Contact your doctor promptly if any side effects are persistent, worsening, or concerning, or if you experience any other concerning symptoms.
• Genital yeast infections
• Increased urinary tract infections
• Increased urination
• Increased thirst
• Changes in urination

Serious or rare side effects – Stop taking Invokana and seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following:
• Ketoacidosis
• Acute injury or worsening of existing kidney problems.
• Increased risk of leg and foot amputations (primarily of the toes and feet)
• Hypoglycemia
• Serious urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• Hypotension
• Increased cholesterol
• Allergic reactions
• Fournier’s gangrene (necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum)
• Bone Fractures

Contraindications:

The following is a partial list of contraindications. Before starting Invokana, it is crucial to discuss all your medical conditions, past and present, and all medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist.

Invokana (canagliflozin) is CONTRAINDICATED in the following situations and should not be used if:
• You have severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2)
• Dialysis
• Hypersensitivity
• Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

Drug Interactions:

Before taking Invokana, it is essential to discuss all potential risks and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist. For complete and up-to-date information, refer to the official Invokana prescribing information (package insert): https://www.janssenlabels.com/package-insert/product-monograph/prescribing-information/INVOKANA-pi.pdf

Provide your doctor with a complete list of all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. The following is a possible list of drug interactions:
• Insulin and Sulfonylureas: Combining Invokana with insulin or sulfonylureas (other diabetes medications) can increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Dosage adjustments of these other diabetes medications may be necessary.
• Diuretics: Invokana itself has a diuretic effect. When taken with other diuretics (“water pills”), there’s an increased risk of dehydration and hypotension.
• Digoxin: Invokana can increase the levels of digoxin in the blood. This requires careful monitoring of digoxin levels.
• UGT Enzyme Inducers: Medications that induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) enzymes (e.g., rifampin, phenytoin) can decrease the effectiveness of Invokana. In such cases, Invokana dosage adjustments may be required.
• Medications that increase potassium: Because of the way that Invokana works, there is a risk of increased potassium levels. Therefore, medications that can also increase potassium levels, such as ACE inhibitors, Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), and potassium-sparing diuretics, must be taken with extra care to monitor potassium levels.
• Beta blockers: Beta blockers can mask symptoms of hypoglycemia, so extra care should be taken when taken with Invokana

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

Invokana is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. You must consult with your doctor to discuss the potential risks before using this medication if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Frequently Asked Questions about Invokana at Canada Pharmacy Online:

Why is Invokana more affordable from Canada than the United States?

Prescription drug prices, including Invokana., are generally lower in Canada than in the US due to a combination of factors, primarily government price regulations, differing market dynamics, and other economic considerations. In Canada, provincial and federal governments negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies, which often results in lower costs compared to the U.S., where market forces play a more significant role.
