Product Details

Levaquin (Levofloxacin) is a flouroquinoline antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. Levaquin is used to treat different types of bacterial infections. Levaquin is also used to treat people who have been exposed to anthrax or certain types of plague. Flouroquinoline antibiotics can cause serious or disabling effects, and should only be used in infections that cannot be treated with safer antibiotics. Levaquin works by interfering with and inhibiting certain DNA functions within the bacteria, blocking an enzyme needed by the bacteria to grow and replicate. This effectively stops the bacteria from replicating, and leads to cell death.

Common side effects of Levaquin include nausea, constipation, or diarrhea, headache or dizziness, or trouble sleeping. Stop taking this medication and call your doctor if you notice more serious side effects such as severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody, irregular heartbeats, shortness of breath or dizziness, any skin rash, no matter how mild, muscle weakness or breathing problems, seizure, increased pressure inside the skull, or liver problems. If you notice more serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.

You should not use Levaquin if you are allergic to levofloxacin or other flouroquinolones. To make sure Levaquin is safe for you, tell your doctor fi you have ever had tendon problems, bone problems, or arthritis or other joint problems, blood circulation problems, heart problems or high blood pressure, a genetic disease such as Marfan’s or Ehler’s-Danlos syndrome, diabetes, a muscle or nerve disorder, kidney disease, seizures, a head injury or brain tumour, long QT syndrome, or low levels of potassium in your blood.
