Lipfendra Information

Lipfendra at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

Lipfendra (enlicitide) is manufactured by Merck, known as MSD outside of the United States and Canada. Lipfendra is the first and only once-daily oral PCSK9 inhibitor, a new class of medication that had previously only been available as an injection, and the U.S. FDA approved it on July 16, 2026. Lipfendra is currently unavailable at this pharmacy.

Lipfendra has no generic equivalent, as it is a newly approved, patent-protected medication.

Dosage:

Lipfendra is available in the following oral strength:
• Tablets: 20 mg.

The recommended dose is 20 mg (1 tablet) taken once daily on an empty stomach in the morning, at least 30 minutes before the first food of the day, with water, black coffee, or plain tea.

Usage:

Lipfendra, along with diet and exercise, reduces LDL ("bad") cholesterol in adults with hypercholesterolemia, including those with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH). This inherited condition causes very high cholesterol from a young age. It offers a pill-based alternative to the injectable PCSK9 inhibitors that have been the only option in this drug class until now.

Mechanism of Action
Enlicitide, the active ingredient in Lipfendra, is a novel macrocyclic peptide, a type of ring-shaped molecule, that binds to a protein called PCSK9. Normally, PCSK9 breaks down LDL receptors on liver cells, which reduces the liver's ability to clear LDL cholesterol from the blood. By binding to PCSK9 and blocking its interaction with LDL receptors, Lipfendra allows more of these receptors to remain active on the surface of liver cells, increasing LDL cholesterol clearance from the bloodstream. In clinical trials, this mechanism produced LDL-cholesterol reductions comparable to those seen with injectable PCSK9 inhibitors.

Once available, take Lipfendra exactly as your doctor prescribes, as directed in the prescribing information. Take the medicine on an empty stomach in the morning, since taking it with food can reduce absorption.

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions, based on the information available at the time of FDA approval. Before starting Lipfendra, it is essential to discuss all possible side effects, risks, and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects:

The information below outlines potential side effects of Lipfendra (enlicitide) reported in clinical trials. It is not an exhaustive list, and individual reactions can vary.

Common side effects: In clinical trials, these side effects occurred more often with Lipfendra than with placebo; other side effects are possible. Contact your doctor promptly if any side effects are persistent, worsening, or concerning, or if you experience any other concerning symptoms.
• Diarrhea
• Dizziness

Serious Side Effects: Seek immediate medical attention or call emergency services if you experience any of the following symptoms:
• Severe Allergic Reaction: Rash, itching, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing.
• Severe or Persistent diarrhea or dizziness that interferes with daily activities.

Contraindications:

The following is not an exhaustive list of contraindications. Before starting Lipfendra, it is crucial to discuss all your medical conditions, past and present, and all medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not take Lipfendra if:
• Allergies: You have a known hypersensitivity to enlicitide or any of the tablet's ingredients.

Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, past and present, before starting Lipfendra. This is crucial as certain conditions may affect the drug's safety.
• Digestive conditions that could affect absorption of an oral medication.
• Liver or kidney disease.

Drug Interactions:

Before taking Lipfendra, discuss all potential risks and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist. For complete, up-to-date information, please refer to the patient information leaflet at https://www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/l/lipfendra/lipfendra_ppi.pdf.

Provide your doctor with a complete list of all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, vitamins, herbal supplements, recreational drugs, and any significant dietary changes, since your doctor can confirm whether any special precautions are needed for your specific situation. According to Merck's clinical data, Lipfendra has shown very low potential for drug interactions through common drug-metabolizing pathways. Dedicated studies found no meaningful changes in blood levels of lithium, levothyroxine, digoxin, warfarin, atorvastatin, alendronate, lisinopril, or oral semaglutide when taken alongside Lipfendra. These medications also do not affect Lipfendra's levels.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

There are insufficient data on the use of Lipfendra in pregnant women to determine a drug-associated risk of congenital disabilities or miscarriage. Because cholesterol and its derivatives are essential for fetal development, Lipfendra may cause fetal harm. Lipfendra should generally be discontinued when pregnancy is recognized unless a healthcare provider determines that the benefits outweigh the risks. It is not known whether enlicitide passes into human breast milk; in animal studies, related compounds given by injection were detected at low levels in the milk and plasma of nursing offspring. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding so you can discuss the risks and benefits of breastfeeding against the mother's clinical need for treatment.

Use in Children:

The safety and effectiveness of Lipfendra have not been established in children, and its use in this age group is not recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions about Lipfendra at Canada Pharmacy Online

Why is Lipfendra more affordable in Canada than in the United States?

Prescription drug prices, including Lipfendra, are generally lower in Canada than in the U.S. due to a combination of factors, primarily government price regulations, differing market dynamics, and other economic considerations.
