Usage

Micatin (Miconazole Nitrate) is an over-the-counter medication used to treat fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, and candidiasis. The drug is also used to treat pityriasis. This fungal infection causes a lightening or darkening of the neck, chest, arms, or legs. The active ingredient in Micatin is Miconazole Nitrate. Miconazole Nitrate belongs to the class of medication called azole antifungals. It works by preventing the growth of fungus.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Micatin are burning, stinging, swelling, redness, and tenderness of the treated skin.

Stop using Micatin and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Blistering;
• Severe irritation of the treated skin;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, or throat

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Miconazole Nitrate, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Micatin comes as a cream and spray. This medication should be applied topically (on the skin) as directed by your doctor. Clean and dry the area to be treated. Apply the cream thinly to the affected skin. If you are using the spray form, shake the bottle well before applying. Your doctor will let you know the dosage and length of treatment depending on the type of infection you are treating. Do not use this medication more than prescribed. It will not clear your infection faster. After applying the medication, wash your hands. Do not bandage or wrap the treated area. Avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing that doesn't allow air circulation. Wear loose-fitting clothing made of cotton and other natural fibers until the infection is healed. Avoid getting this medication into your eyes, nose, or vagina. This drug is not for treating fungal nail infections.

Before you start using Micatin, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Become pregnant or nursing a child

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Micatin should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. It is unknown if Miconazole Nitrate passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Miconazole Nitrate and other drugs, such as warfarin and other topical medicines.
