Usage

Naftin (Naftifine) is a prescription topical medication used to treat fungal skin infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm infections. Fungal skin infections often develop in sweaty or damp areas that don’t get much airflow. Naftin cream helps eliminate the redness, itching, and scaling that may appear between toes due to fungal infections. The active substance in Naftin is Naftifine. Naftifine belongs to the class of medications called antifungals. It works by killing the fungus causing the infection.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Naftin are itching, mild irritation at the site of application, skin redness, skin dryness, and transient burning or stinging sensation.

Stop using Naftin and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Lumps and bumps at the site of application;
• Severe local irritation and redness;
• Signs of an allergic reaction such as breathing difficulties, hives, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat;
• Worsening of your symptoms

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Naftifine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or other antifungals (such as terbinafine) or if you have any other allergies. Naftifine comes as a cream and gel for external use only. Naftin cream should not be used in the mouth, eyes, or vagina. Apply the cream twice daily, usually in the morning and evening, for 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the severity of your symptoms. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any part you do not understand. Thoroughly clean the infected area, allow it to dry, and gently rub the medication until most of it disappears. Use just enough medication to cover the affected area. You should wash your hands after applying the medication. Continue to use Naftifine even if you feel well. Do not stop using Naftifine without talking to your doctor.

Before you start using Naftin, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver cancer;
• Have skin infections or open wounds

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, antifungals such as Naftin should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Naftin and other topical creams.
