Product Details

Nexletol (Bempedoic acid) is a prescription medicine used, along with diet and other lipid-lowering medicines, in the treatment of adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH). HeFH is an inherited condition that causes high levels of “bad” cholesterol called low density lipoprotein (LDL). It is also used to treat adults with known heart disease who need additional lowering of “bad” cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. It is not known if Nexletol can decrease problems from high cholesterol, such as heart attacks, stroke, death, or other heart problems. Nexletol works inhibiting certain enzymes in the liver to block the synthesis and function of low-density lipoproteins. This lowers the level of bad cholesterol in your blood.

Common side effects of Nexletol include cold or flu-like symptoms, back pain, stomach pain, increased liver enzymes, muscle spasms, pain in shoulders, legs, or arms, anemia, or bronchitis. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any more serious side effects such as signs of high levels of uric acid (severe foot pain, especially in the toe joint, warm joints, selling, tender joints, or joint redness) or if you experience any tendon ruptures or injuries.

Do not use Nexletol if you are allergic to bempedoic acid. To make sure Nexletol is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had gout, tendon problems, severe kidney problems, or severe liver problems. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or become pregnant in order to discuss any possible risks. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. You should not use Nexletol if you are breastfeeding.

Questions and Answers

1. How should I store Nexletol?
Answer: Store Nexletol in the original packaging at room temperature. Do not throw away the packet that helps to keep your medication dry (desiccant). Store Nexletol out of sight and reach of children.

2. What medications can interact with Nexletol?
Answer: For lowering cholesterol, Nexletol is often taken with other medications, including a group of medications called statins. Tell your doctor is you take simvastatin or pravastatin, as your doctor may need to change the dose of one or all of your medications. As well, tell your doctor about any other medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements you are currently taking in order to reduce the risk of interactions.
