Product Details

Qternmet XR contains dapagliflozin, saxagliptin, and metformin hydrochloride. It is used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not for people with type 1 diabetes and not for people with diabetic ketoacidosis (increased ketones in blood or urine). This medication is only for people currently taking metformin. It is not known if Qternmet XR is safe and effective in children younger than 18 years of age. Qternmet XR is available as extended-release tablets in the dosage strengths of 2.5 mg dapagliflozin/2.5 mg saxagliptin/1000 mg metformin HCl extended-release, 5 mg dapagliflozin/2.5 mg saxagliptin/1000 mg metformin HCl extended-release, 5 mg dapagliflozin/5 mg saxagliptin/1000 mg metformin HCl extended-release, 10 mg dapagliflozin/5 mg saxagliptin/1000 mg metformin HCl extended-release.

Some less serious side effects of Qternmet XR may include upper respiratory tract infection, abnormal amount of fats in blood, urinary tract infection.

Stop using Qternmet XR and contact your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

• Bladder cancer
• Dehydration
• Heart failure
• Inflammation of pancreas
• Ketoacidosis (nausea, tiredness, vomiting, trouble breathing, abdominal pain)
• Kidney problems
• Lactic acidosis
• Low blood sugar
• Skin reactions
• Vaginal yeast infection

Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take Qternmet XR by mouth 1 time each day in the morning with food. Swallow the tablets whole, do not cut, crush or chew the tablets. Stay on your prescribed diet and exercise program while taking this medication. Do not stop taking the medicine if you do not see the results right away. Do not take Qternmet XR if you are allergic to dapagliflozin, saxagliptin, metformin or any other ingredients in the medication, have moderate to severe kidney problems, are on dialysis, have a condition called metabolic acidosis or diabetic ketoacidois. Qternmet XR should not be used in children. The safety of its use in children has not been determined. Qternmet XR may interact with ketoconazole, topiramate, ranolazine, vandetanib, dolutegravir, and cimetidine, diuretics.

Answer: Is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis. Qternmet XR initiation is intended only for patients currently taking metformin.

2. What other precautions should I take while taking Qternmet XR?
Answer: Avoid drinking alcohol very often or drinking a lot of alcohol in a short period of time (“binge” drinking). It can increase your chances of getting serious side effects.
