Dosage

Renedil is available in the strength of 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg tablets.

Usage

Renedil (Felodipine) is a prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The active ingredient in Renedil is Felodipine. Felodipine belongs to a group of medications called calcium channel blockers. It works by blocking the calcium channel which effectively relaxes and widens blood vessels so blood can flow more easily and reduces workload on the heart. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, kidney problems, and sudden cardiac death.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Renedil are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, flushing, and tachycardia.

Stop using Renedil and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Severe dizziness and palpitation;
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., abdominal cramps, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting, or swelling of the face and throat);
• Sudden drop in your blood pressure;
• Swelling of the ankles, feet, and lower legs

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Felodipine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or have any other allergies. Renedil comes as a tablet, and it should be taken as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with a cup of water. Depending on your blood pressure reading, your doctor may start you on a low dose of Renedil (2.5 mg) to be taken once daily. You may feel dizzy after taking this medication. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Grapefruit juice can increase blood levels of felodipine. Avoid drinking grapefruit juice or eating grapefruit before or while you are taking felodipine. Monitor your blood pressure regularly and do not miss your clinic appointment. Do not stop taking Renedil suddenly as this may cause a sudden rise in your blood pressure. Talk to your doctor if there are no significant changes in your blood pressure despite regular use of your medication.

Before you start using Renedil, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Heart disease such as heart failure;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Renedil can harm the unborn baby if it is taken during pregnancy. Felodipine should not be taken by women who are breastfeeding. If you are a breastfeeding mother and are taking this medication, it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about the best feeding practices. There may be a drug interaction between Renedil and other drugs such as dantrolene and itraconazole.
