Usage

Steglujan (Ertugliflozin/Sitagliptin) is a prescription combination medication used together with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Ertugliflozin belongs to the class of medications called sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and it works by helping the kidneys get rid of glucose from your bloodstream. Sitagliptin belongs to the class of medications called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors and it works by regulating the insulin levels in your body after you eat. Steglujan is not used for treating type 1 diabetes.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Steglujan may include diarrhea, headache, symptoms of cold, urinating more than usual, and upset stomach. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
Ketoacidosis;
• Little or no urinating;
• Pain, tenderness, sores, ulcers, or infections in your legs or feet;
• Severe or ongoing pain in your joints;
• Signs of a bladder infection;
• Symptoms of dehydration;
• Symptoms of heart failure;
• Symptoms of pancreatitis

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Steglujan if you are allergic to Ertugliflozin or Sitagliptin, or if you have diabetic ketoacidosis or severe kidney disease. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history especially if you are on a low salt diet or if you have ever had:
• Alcoholism;
• A bladder infection or problems with urination;
• A diabetic foot ulcer or amputation;
• Blood circulation problems especially in your legs;
• Gallstones;
• Heart problems;
• High or low blood pressure;
• High triglycerides;
• Liver or kidney disease;
• Nerve damage in your legs;
• Pancreas problems

This medication may increase the risk of lower limb amputations. Tell your doctor right away if you have new pain or tenderness, any sores, ulcers, or infections in your leg or foot. You should not drink alcohol while you are taking this medication. Avoid getting up too fast or from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Ertugliflozin and Sitagliptin and other medications. You should not use Steglujan during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. You should not breastfeed while using this medication. Steglujan is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
