Synjardy at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

Brand Synjardy, manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim, is available in many countries worldwide, including Canada, India, and Turkey.

The generic empagliflozin/metformin hydrochloride is currently unavailable (at this pharmacy).

Dosage:

Synjardy oral tablets come in multiple strengths, combining fixed doses of empagliflozin and metformin hydrochloride. These include: 5 mg/850 mg, 5 mg/1000 mg, 12.5 mg/500 mg, 12.5 mg/850 mg, and 12.5 mg/1000 mg.

Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage based on the individual needs and medical conditions.

Usage:

Synjardy (empagliflozin/metformin hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder that presents with persistently high blood sugar levels. This is because the body is unable to use insulin properly or produce enough of it. Synjardy can also be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, stroke, or heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes and established heart disease.

Mechanism of Action:
Synjardy (empagliflozin/metformin hydrochloride) is a combination medication used to treat diabetes. Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It blocks the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys, reducing the reabsorption of glucose into the blood and increasing glucose excretion in the urine. This action lowers blood sugar levels. Metformin hydrochloride is a biguanide. It decreases glucose production by the liver, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.

Take Synjardy exactly as your doctor prescribes, following the instructions in the Highlights of Prescribing Information. Consult your doctor for personalized guidance and safe use.

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions. Before taking Synjardy, it is essential to discuss all potential side effects, risks, and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects:

The information below is a partial list of side effects; individual reactions can vary. Before starting Synjardy, it is crucial to discuss potential side effects and risks with your doctor or pharmacist.

• Diarrhea

Serious or rare side effects – Stop taking Synjardy and seek immediate medical attention right away if you experience any of the following:

• Dehydration
• Signs of diabetic ketoacidosis, including difficulty breathing, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue, nausea, fruity breath odor
• Signs of Fournier’s Gangrene, including severe pain, tenderness, redness, or swelling in the genital or anal area
• Signs of lactic acidosis, including stomach pain, dizziness, trouble breathing, lightheadedness, unusual muscle pain
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Contraindications:

This is not an exhaustive list of contraindications. It is crucial to discuss all your medical conditions, past and present, and all medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist before starting Synjardy.

Synjardy should not be used if:
• Are allergic to empagliflozin/metformin hydrochloride or any of the inactive ingredients in Synjardy
• You have diabetic ketoacidosis
• You have dialysis
• You have lactic acidosis
• You have moderate or severe kidney disease
• You have Type 1 diabetes

Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, past and present, before starting Synjardy. This is crucial because certain conditions can affect whether Synjardy is right for you. These conditions may include, but are not limited to:
• Bladder infection
• Congestive heart failure
• Genital infection
• History of urinary tract infections (UTIs) or genital yeast infections
• Kidney disease
• Liver disease
• Low-salt diet
• Pancreatitis
• X-ray or CT Scan that involves injecting dye into your veins

Dehydration:
Synjardy can cause dehydration. You should drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication. Inform your doctor if you experience vomiting, diarrhea, or unusual sweating.

Dizziness:
Synjardy may make you dizzy. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position. Do not drive or perform any activity that requires alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.

Genital Yeast Infections and UTIs:
Synjardy can increase the risk of genital yeast infections and urinary tract infections in both men and women. Seek medical attention if you develop symptoms.

Kidney Function Monitoring:
Kidney problems can increase the risk of side effects when taking Synjardy. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function before and during treatment with Synjardy. You may have to take Vitamin B12 supplements while using this medication.

Lactic Acidosis Risk:
Lactic acidosis is a dangerous buildup of lactic acid in your blood. The risk of developing this condition increases as you take a medicine containing metformin. Patients with kidney problems, congestive heart failure, dehydration, or those undergoing specific medical procedures are at risk of developing lactic acidosis. Limit your intake of alcohol when taking Synjardy. Alcohol can increase your risk of lactic acidosis.

Low Blood Sugar:
Synjardy can cause low blood sugar, particularly when used in combination with other medications that lower blood sugar, such as insulin or sulfonylureas. Low blood sugar can cause you to feel extremely hungry, dizzy, shaky, or irritable. To quickly treat hypoglycemia, eat or drink hard candy, crackers, raisins, fruit juice, or non-diet soda. Your doctor may prescribe glucagon injections in case of severe hypoglycemia.

Type 1 Diabetes:
Synjardy is only used to treat adults with Type 2 diabetes. Do not use this drug to treat Type 1 diabetes. Vitamin B12:
Vitamin B12 is crucial for maintaining a healthy nervous system and brain function. Long-term use of metformin can lead to a decrease in vitamin B12 levels. Your doctor may monitor your vitamin B12 levels before and during treatment with Synjardy.

Drug Interactions:

Before taking Synjardy, it is essential to discuss all potential risks and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist. For complete information about potential drug interactions, consult the product monograph in Canada: https://pdf.hres.ca/dpd_pm/00069911.PDF, and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.

Provide your doctor with a complete list of all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Synjardy can interact with other medicines but is not limited to aspirin, insulin, diuretics, digoxin, vancomycin, and quinidine.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

If you are pregnant or become pregnant, tell your doctor before using Synjardy. It is unknown if empagliflozin/metformin hydrochloride will harm an unborn baby. It is crucial to discuss the risks and benefits of using Synjardy with your doctor before taking it. Controlling high blood sugar in pregnancy is essential as it can cause complications for both mother and child. If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed, inform your doctor. The excretion of empagliflozin in human milk is unknown. Metformin hydrochloride is excreted in human breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. It is crucial to discuss the risks and benefits of using Synjardy with your doctor before taking it.
