Product Details

Thyroid is a combination of hormones that are produced naturally by your thyroid gland to regulate the body’s energy and metabolism. Thyroid is given when the thyroid gland in the body does not produce enough of these hormones on its own. Thyroid is used to treat hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone). It is also used to treat or prevent goiter (enlargement of thyroid gland). It is prescribed as a supplemental therapy for replacing a hormone made by our thyroid gland. It is also used for the treatment and prevention of thyroid goiters, such as thyroid nodules, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, multinodular goiter, and in the management of thyroid cancer. Thyroid is available in the dosage forms of 30 mg and 125 mg.

Less serious side effects of Thyroid may include temporary hair loss (especially in children). Stop using Thyroid and contact your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

• Symptoms of overdose include changes in appetite, change in menstrual periods, chest pain, diarrhea, fast or irregular heartbeat, fever, hand tremors, headache, irritability, nervousness, leg cramps, shortness of breath, trouble sleeping, vomiting, weight loss, sweating, and sensitivity to heat

• Signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

It is very important to take Thyroid exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You should swallow the tablets whole with water and do not chew them. You should continue to take the medicine even if you feel better. Talk to your doctor before stopping the medication. While using this medication, you may need frequent blood tests. Do not use the medication if you allergic to thyroid or its non-medicinal ingredients, have Addison’s Disease (where the adrenal glands of the body are damaged and do not produce enough adrenal hormone), have untreated hyperthyroidism, have overactive thyroid gland. Before taking Thyroid, inform your doctor if you suffer from any medical conditions such as heart disease, angina, chest pain, coronary artery disease or congestive heart failure, diabetes, blood clotting problems, adrenal or pituitary gland problems. Thyroid may interact with other medications like oral anticoagulants such as warfarin, clopidogrel, anti-diabetic drugs including insulin, metformin, cholestyramine (used for the treatment of diarrhea), oral contraceptives and estrogen or any other hormonal replacement therapy, medications that contain iodine, salicylates such as aspirin, steroids such as prednisone.

Questions & Answers

1. What Should I Avoid While Using Thyroid?
Answer: Avoid taking medications like cholestyramine or colestipol within 4 hours before or after you take thyroid. Also, avoid taking an antacid within 4 hours before or after taking thyroid as some antacids can make it harder for the body to absorb thyroid.

2. Can you drink coffee right after taking Thyroid?
Answer: Researchers have observed a delay in absorption of Thyroid after drinking coffee within an hour of taking Thyroid. Hence, you should wait for at least 60 minutes after taking Thyroid to drink your coffee.
