Product Details

Xigduo XR (Dapagliflozin/Metformin) is a combination medication used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Xigduo is not for treating type 1 diabetes. Dapagliflozin and metformin are oral diabetes medicines that help control blood sugar levels. This medication is also used in people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease to lower the risk of going to the hospital for heart failure. Dapagliflozin works by increasing sugar removal from the kidneys. Metformin decreases the levels of sugar created by your liver, and decreases the amount of sugar your body takes in through your stomach and intestines. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Common side effects of Xigduo include genital infections. Headache, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, runny or stuffy nose, or sore throat. Contact your doctor if you notice more serious side effects such as little or no urination, dehydration symptoms, signs of ketoacidosis, or signs of lactic acidosis. If you notice more serious side effects, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.

You should not use Xigduo if you are allergic to dapagliflozin or metformin, or if you have severe kidney disease, or metabolic acidosis or diabetes ketoacidosis. To make sure Xigduo is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure, bladder or urination problems, bladder cancer, heart problems or low blood pressure, problems with you pancreas, or if you are on a low salt diet.

Questions and Answers

1. What should I avoid while using Xigduo?
Answer: Avoid drinking alcohol. It lowers blood sugar and may increase your risk of lactic acidosis. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy.

2. What other medications will interact with Xigduo?
Answer: Tell your doctor about any medications you are currently taking, specifically digoxin, a diuretic, insulin, rifampin, ritonavir, NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), or seizure medication.
