You should not take Aubagio if you are allergic to Teriflunomide or leflunomide, or if you are pregnant or think you might become pregnant, if you have severe liver disease, or are also taking leflunomide. Before you start taking Aubagio, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you currently take including OTC and herbal medications.

This medication can cause serious harm and birth defects. You should not use this medication if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are nursing. Use at least 2 forms of birth control and expect to take pregnancy tests monthly while on this medication.

Precautions

Be sure to take Aubagio exactly as your doctor describes for you. Follow all instructions that come with your medication. You may need to have your liver function tested up to 6 months before you start taking Aubagio, then every month after you start taking it to prevent severe liver problems.

Aubagio can be taken with or without food and expect to have your blood pressure checked frequently.

Store at room temperature away from heat, light, and moisture.

There can be interactions between Aubagio and other medications. In particular, leflunomide. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Aubagio.

This medication can lower blood cells to help you fight off infections or help your blood clot. Depending on test results, you may have to stop treatment. When you stop taking this medication, you may need to be treated with other medications to help your body eliminate Aubagio quickly. If this isn’t done, it could stay in your system for up to two years.

To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

Questions and Answers

1. Can taking Aubagio as a man affect my fertility?
Answer: Taking Aubagio won’t necessarily affect your fertility, but it can still cause birth defects for your baby. Do not try to become pregnant while taking this medication – regardless if you are a man or a woman.

2. Can I receive vaccines while on this medication?
Answer: You can receive some vaccines, but be sure to avoid taking “live” vaccines while on Aubagio for at least 6 months after you stop taking it. These vaccines may not work as well and will not protect you adequately from the disease. Talk to your doctor about which vaccines are “live.”

3. How long does Aubagio stay in my system?
Answer: Unless you are treated with other medications to help eliminate Aubagio quickly, it’s possible for this medication to stay in your system for up to two years. This can impact any pregnancies during this time, so be sure to tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant, or impregnate your partner within the 2-year window.
