Product Details

Calcort (Deflazacort) is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy in adults and children who are at least 5 years old. Deflazacort is a steroid that reduces inflammation in the body. This medication does not cure muscular dystrophy but it improves muscle strength and slows the progression of disability.

The common side effects may include changes in the shape or location of body fat in your arms, legs, face, neck, breasts and waist, cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough, increased growth of body hair, increased appetite or weight gain. The serious side effects may include:
• Pain or burning when you urinate;
• Night sweats;
• Rapid weight loss;
• Skin sores, warmth or redness under the skin;
• Sores or white patches in your mouth or throat;
• Sudden weakness or ill feeling, fever chills or sore throat

You should not take Calcort if you are allergic to Deflazacort or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. It is unknown whether this medication will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. This medication passes into breast milk and may cause side effects in the nursing baby. Deflazacort should not be used by anyone younger than 5 years old. There may be an interaction between Calcort and other medications such as insulin or oral diabetes medications, thyroid, antibiotics, antifungal medications, antidepressant, heart or blood pressure medication, seizure medications, etc.
