Product Details

Coumadin (Warfarin) is a prescription medication that is used to treat or prevent blood clots in veins or arteries from forming or from getting bigger but it does not dissolve the blood clots. Warfarin belongs to the class of medications called anticoagulants, also referred to as a blood thinner. This medication keeps the blood flowing in your body by decreasing the amount of clotting proteins in your blood. Warfarin helps to reduce blood clotting within 24 hours of taking the medication. The full effects may take 72 to 96 hours to occur. Warfarin works by partially by blocking the reuse of Vitamin K in your liver.

Coumadin Side Effects and Precautions
The common side effects may include diarrhea, general feeling of being unwell, intolerance to cold, nausea, stomach cramps or pain and vomiting. The serious side effects may include:
• Dizziness;
• Headaches;
• Numbness or tingling of hands, feet or face;
• Pain or swelling;
• Paralysis;
• Signs of anemia such as dizziness, pale skin, unusual tiredness or weakness, short of breath;
• Signs of bleeding that are not life-threatening;
• Signs of liver damage such as yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, light-coloured stools;
• Sudden shortness of breath;
• Unexplained bruising;
• Unusual pain or swelling;
• Unusual weakness

You should not use Coumadin if you are allergic to Warfarin or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking your medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication may cause stomach bleeding. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy because it can seriously harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor right away if you are pregnant or become pregnant. This medication may pass into breast milk in very small amounts but is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. There may an interaction between warfarin and other medications such as acetaminophen, allopurinol, amiodarone, azathioprine, bezafibrate, clopidogrel, coenzyme Q10, metronidazole, quetiapine, quinine, ropinirole, tamoxifen, tolterodine, venlafaxine, etc.
