The active ingredient in Ebixa is Memantine hydrochloride. Memantine hydrochloride belongs to a class of drugs called NMDA receptor antagonists. It works by decreasing abnormal brain activity. Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Ebixa are constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, appetite loss, headache, sleeping difficulties, and vomiting.

Warnings and Interactions

You can take Ebixa with or without food. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not chew. Tell your doctor if you have recently changed your diet or intend to change your diet substantially from a regular diet to a strict vegetarian diet. Avoid driving or operating machinery. Memantine may cause drowsiness. This drug can help to control your condition. It does not cure it. Your doctor will assess your treatment regularly. Before you start using Ebixa, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• History of epileptic seizures;
• Kidney problems;
• Recently experienced a heart attack;
• Severe bladder infection;
• Severe kidney problems;
• Uncontrolled hypertension or congestive heart failure;
• Use amantadine, a treatment for Parkinson's disease

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. You should not use Ebixa and other NMDA antagonists at the same time. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Ebixa should not be used during pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Ebixa passes into breast milk. The drug may harm nursing infants. There may be a drug interaction between Ebixa and other medications such as nicotine, cimetidine, warfarin, ketamine, and atropine. Avoid drugs such as quinine, urinary alkalinisers, dextromethorphan, or baclofen with Memantine.
