Usage

Entresto (Valsartan/Sacubitril) is a prescription medication used to treat chronic heart failure. It helps reduce the risk of hospitalization and death from heart failure (source). This medication combines two blood-pressure-lowering medications, Sacubitril, and Valsartan. Sacubitril belongs to a class of medications called neprilysin inhibitors. Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). As stated on WebMD, Entresto works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more efficiently, which makes it easier for your heart to pump blood to your body.

It is crucial to take this medication exactly as your doctor prescribes and refer to the package insert. Please consult with your doctor for personalized advice.

Side Effects

According to Healthline, Entresto's common side effects may include cough, dizziness, high potassium levels, kidney problems, and low blood pressure.

Contact your doctor right away if you experience any of the following severe side effects of Entresto such as:
• An allergic reaction (angioedema);
• Extreme tiredness;
• Feeling light-headed, like you might pass out;
• Signs of kidney problems (unusual change in the amount of urine);
• Symptoms of a high potassium blood level (muscle weakness, slow/irregular heartbeat)

The above information is a summary and may not contain all the side effects of this medication. Please visit Drugs.com for a complete list of side effects. Please note that individual reactions may vary, and not everyone will experience all the adverse reactions. If you still have questions about side effects, we suggest further conversations with your doctor.

Warnings and Interactions

You should not take Entresto if you are allergic to Valsartan or Sacubitril or have an allergic reaction to an ACE inhibitor or an ARB. You should not take Entresto for at least 36 hours before or after you take an ACE inhibitor medicine (source).

Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history and if you are pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, or if you have a history of hereditary angioedema or kidney or liver problems.

This medication may cause dizziness and lightheadedness. Alcohol or marijuana can make you dizzy. Do not drive or perform any activity that requires alertness until you can do it safely. Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes while you are taking Entresto. Tell your doctor about all your medicines, including prescriptions, over-the-counter products, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Entresto and other medications, especially aliskiren, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, lithium, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Entresto is not recommended for use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. For a comprehensive list of precautions and interactions associated with Entresto, please check out MedicalNewsToday.
