Product Details

The medication Famvir belongs to a class of medicines known as anti-viral medications and is used to treat a number of viral infections such as herpes zoster and genital herpes. It acts by stopping the virus from multiplying and reproducing. It does not stop the virus from spreading herpes to another person. This medication should be taken as early as possible when you know an attack is starting. Although Famvir does not help in curing the viral infection, it helps to shorten the duration of symptoms and allows the infections to heal faster.

Some less serious side effects of Famvir may feeling sick, headache, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness (usually in elder people), hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not really there), vomiting, yellowing of the skin and eyes, abnormal liver function results, palpitations (Signs of abnormal heartbeat), skin rashes, itching or blistering, diarrhea, tiredness and abdominal pain. Stop using Famvir and contact your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

• Serious skin reactions
• Allergic reactions
• Seizures or fits
• A decrease in the number of platelets
• Purple skin patches, itching, burning (signs of inflamed blood vessels)

Take Famvir exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Be sure to take Famvir regularly as prescribed. Try to take your tablets at the same time every day. You should continue to take the medicine even if you do not feel better, as it may take a few days for the medicine to work. Famvir can be taken with or without food. You should swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not chew them. Do not use the medication if you have known hypersensitivity to famciclovir, or to penciclovir (a compound formed from famciclovir by your body and is an ingredient in some other medications) or to any other ingredients present in Famvir, have intolerance to some sugars, galactose intolerance, a severe lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption as this medication contains lactose. Before taking Famvir, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed, have severe liver diseases, have or had kidney disease, or other medical conditions. Famvir may interact with medications such as probenecid (used to treat high blood levels of uric acid associated with gout and to increase blood levels of penicillin-type antibiotics), or any other medicine that can affect your kidneys, raloxifene (used to prevent and treat osteoporosis).
