Hytone (Hydrocortisone) is a prescription medication used to relieve itching, redness, and irritation caused by skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema, poison oak, and insect bites. The active ingredient in Hytone is Hydrocortisone. Hydrocortisone belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids. It works by decreasing inflammation of the skin.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Hytone are acne, mild stinging, unusual hair growth, stretch marks, or skin discoloration.

Stop using Hytone and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Bleeding in the treated area;
• Flushing of the skin;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, and itching of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Unusually warm skin

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Hytone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Hytone is a lotion. Use Hytone exactly as your doctor prescribes. Use the lotion on the skin only. Please do not take it by mouth. Please do not use it on the face or underarms unless your doctor prescribes it. Wash and dry your hands before applying the lotion. Clean and dry the affected area. Shake the lotion well just before use. Apply a small amount of Hytone to the affected area and rub it in gently, up to 4 times a day or as directed by your doctor. Your dosage will depend on the condition you are treating. Do not cover or wrap the treated area with bandage or airtight dressings unless your doctor directs you to do so. If you apply Hytone in or near the diaper area on an infant, do not use plastic pants or tight-fitting diapers. Wash your hands after applying the medication unless you are treating your hands. Avoid getting the medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If Hytone gets into these areas, rinse with plenty of water. Contact your doctor if irritation occurs or continues. Hytone is a corticosteroid. Please do not use it for longer than is prescribed by your doctor. Inform your doctor if your condition persists for more than seven days.

Before you start using Hytone, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding;
• Experience itching of the outer genitals with vaginal discharge;
• Have an infection or sore in the area to be treated;
• Have any allergy

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. The safety of Hytone in pregnancy has not been established. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Hydrocortisone passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. The use of Hytone should be avoided in children less than 18 years old. There may be a drug interaction between Hytone and other drugs, such as other topical medications, etc.
