Lamictal(lamotrigine) is a drug used to treat epileptic seizures in adults and children. It is also used to delay mood episodes in adults with bipolar disorder (manic depression). It is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant. Lamictal differ from the XR and ODT versions because the XR version is an extended-release version, while the ODT version (oral dispersible tablet) is an immediate release version of the drug. This medication is usually only prescribed for adults and children over the age of 13 years. Side Effects
The possible side effects include:
• Abdominal pain, back pain;
• Drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting;
• Blurred vision, double vision;
• Loss of coordination;
• Sleep problems (insomnia);
• Tremors, or tried feeling;

More serious side effects include:
• Body aches, flu symptoms, muscle pain;
• Easy bruising, unusual bleeding purple spots under your skin;
• Fever, chills, neck stiffness, increased sensitivity to light;
• Increased seizures or worsening of your bipolar disorder;
• The first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild;

Safety in Pregnancy and Children
Before you purchase this medication, tell your doctor if you have one of the following medical conditions:
• A history of depression or suicidal thoughts or actions;
• kidney or liver disease;
• Or if you are allergic to other seizure medications.

Lamictal is in pregnancy category C (studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus). It is not known whether it will harm an unborn baby. Taking this medication during early pregnancy can increase the risk of the baby being born with cleft lip or cleft palate. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking this medication. Birth control pills can make it less effective, resulting in increased seizures. Tell your doctor if you start or stop using birth control pills while you are taking this medication. Your Lamictal dose may need to be changed. Tell your doctor if you plan to stop taking birth control pills. This medication can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
