Usage

Norpace (Disopyramide) is a prescription medicine used to treat certain types of irregular heartbeat, such as sustained ventricular tachycardia. It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a steady heartbeat. The active ingredient in Norpace is Disopyramide. Disopyramide belongs to the class of medication known as an antiarrhythmic drug. It works by blocking specific electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat. Treating an irregular heartbeat can decrease the risk of blood clots, and this effect can reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Norpace are nausea, vomiting, dry eyes, dry mouth, stomach pain, blurred vision, and headache.

Stop using Norpace and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Double vision;
• Recurrent fall;
• Recurrent infection;
• Severe and generalized body rash;
• Urinary retention or difficulty in passing urine;
• Worsening of your symptoms

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking disopyramide, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Norpace comes as a capsule, and it should be taken by swallowing it with a cup of water. The capsule is usually taken 3-4 times daily, depending on the severity of your condition. The extended-release capsule is usually taken every 12 hours. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Swallow the extended-release capsules; do not open, crush, or chew them. Disopyramide helps control your condition but will not cure it. Continue to take disopyramide even if you feel well. Norpace may cause a reduction in your blood sugar. Check your blood sugar regularly and continue to record the values. Make sure to attend your clinic appointment. Do not stop taking disopyramide without talking to your doctor. Inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition.

Before you start using Norpace, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Enlarged prostate or prostate cancer;
• Glaucoma;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, this medication should only be used only when needed. Rarely, disopyramide may cause early labor during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Disopyramide passes into breast milk; the effect on a nursing infant is unknown. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. There may be a drug interaction between Norpace and other drugs such as clomipramine, amitriptyline, haloperidol, promethazine, erythromycin, ketoconazole, quinidine, etc.
