Sinemet CR Information

Sinemet CR Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the generic Sinemet CR (Carbidopa/Levodopa) from India (Syndopa CR by Sun Pharmaceuticals) and from Canada by a different manufacturer. The brand version is not available.

Dosage

The generic Sinemet CR is available in the strength of 25 mg/100 mg and 50 mg/200 mg tablets.

Usage

Sinemet CR (Carbidopa/Levodopa) is a prescription medication used to treat some of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, which are shaking (tremor), muscle stiffness, and slow and unsteady movement. The active ingredients in Sinemet CR are Carbidopa and Levodopa. Sinemet CR belongs to a class of drugs called Decarboxylase Inhibitors (Antiparkinson Agents). Sinemet CR works by causing the slow release of levodopa and carbidopa. Levodopa is a chemical closely related to dopamine, allowing the body to dopamine. Carbidopa makes sure that enough levodopa gets to the brain where it is needed. This keeps the amount of levodopa in your brain as even as possible.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Sinemet CR are dizziness, light-headedness, nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty falling asleep, bad dreams, and headache.

Stop using Sinemet CR and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., abdominal cramps, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, or swelling of the face and throat);
• Thoughts of self-harm or suicide;

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to carbidopa or levodopa; or any other allergies. You should use this medicine as prescribed by your doctor—Swallow Sinemet CR whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the tablets. If the tablets are crushed or chewed, they will no longer have slow-release properties. It would be best not to use more than your recommended dose as this may cause adverse effects. Although rare, you may feel light-headed or dizzy while taking Sinemet CR. This is because your blood pressure is falling suddenly. Standing up slowly, especially when you get up from bed or chairs, will help your body get used to the change in position and blood pressure. If this problem continues or gets worse, tell your doctor. It may take up to several weeks before your symptoms improve. Your doctor may want you to gradually reduce the amount of Sinemet CR you are using before stopping completely. This may help reduce withdrawal symptoms such as muscle stiffness, fever, and mental changes.

Before you start using Sinemet CR, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Asthma;
Endocrine disease;
• Heart disease, including irregular heartbeat, also known as arrhythmia;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;
• Melanoma (skin cancer);
• Open-angle glaucoma (eye pressure problem);
• Peptic ulcer or history of intestinal bleeding;
• Psychosis (mental disorder) or depression;

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. You should inform your doctor if you plan to get pregnant or become pregnant while taking the Sinemet tablet for your Parkinson other diseases. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Levodopa passes into breast milk in small amounts, affecting how much milk you make. However, it is unknown if carbidopa passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Sinemet and other drugs such as phenelzine, tranylcypromine, rifampicin, isocarboxazid, selegiline, procarbazine, and iron supplements and multivitamins containing iron.
