Drug name: Tasmar
Generic name: Tolcapone
Use: Parkinson’s disease symptoms

Tasmar is a drug which is used to treat the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. The symptoms which Tasmar is successful in treating include stiffness, spasms and twitches in the muscles and tremors/shakes. It is often prescribed in conjunction with carbidopa and levodopa. It is only usually prescribed to patients who have tried other drugs but have been unsuccessful in reducing the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. In this case, the carbidopa and levodopa will still be administered, but the Tasmar will be added to the treatment program. Your doctor may recommend it for other purposes not listed.

Tasmar Side Effects

The possible Tasmar side effects include:
• Agitation, anxiety;
• Cold symptoms;
• Diarrhea, constipation, dry mouth;
• Dizziness, drowsiness;
• Headache, fatigue;
• Sleep problems;
• Skin changes.

More serious side effects may include:
• Fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating;
• Feeling faint;
• Hallucinations;
• Muscle pain, tenderness, weakness with fever;
• Pain or burning when urinating;
• Severe or ongoing diarrhea;
• Tremors/shakes.

Tasmar Safety in Pregnancy and Children

• Low blood pressure;

Tasmar belongs to pregnancy category C. It is not known whether this drug is harmful to an unborn baby. You must discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to conceive. Tasmar is safe for use in adults over the age of 18 only and should not be given to children under 18 years.
