Dosage

Xolair is available in the strength of 75 mg/0.5 ml and 150 mg/1 ml prefilled injections.

Usage

Xolair (Omalizumab) is a prescription medication used to treat moderate to severe persistent asthma, long-lasting hives of unknown origin, and nasal polyps whose asthma does not respond to inhaled corticosteroids. The active ingredient in Xolair is Omalizumab. Omalizumab belongs to the class of medications called monoclonal antibodies. The human body develops allergic reactions when it produces too much immunoglobin E (IgE). Omalizumab works by attaching itself to IgE in the blood, which stops the IgE from attaching to other cells in the body. This then blocks the release of histamine, which causes allergy symptoms like runny nose or sneezes. Xolair is not used to treat other allergic conditions, other forms of hives, or sudden breathing problems.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Xolair are pain, dizziness, tiredness, itchy skin, reactions near the injection site, skin rash, and nausea

Stop using Xolair and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Wheezing, shortness of breath, cough, chest tightness, or trouble breathing;
• Low blood pressure, dizziness, fainting, rapid or weak heartbeat;
• Flushing, itching, hives, or feeling warm;
• Swelling of the throat or tongue, throat tightness, hoarse voice, or trouble swallowing

Warnings and Interactions

You should not take Xolair if you are allergic to Omalizumab or any of the ingredients in Xolair. Xolair does not treat acute asthma symptoms such as sudden asthma attacks, and it does not prevent allergic-type conditions like sudden allergic reactions. Always use Xolair as prescribed by your doctor. You and your doctor will decide if you should inject Xolair yourself. The first three doses are given under the supervision of a healthcare professional. If you miss a dose, you should inject it as soon as you remember and contact your doctor to know when to inject the next dose. Do not stop treatment with Xolair unless your doctor tells you to. Your symptoms may come back if you interrupt or stop the treatment. Before you start using Xolair, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• A history of severe allergic reactions to medicine, food, insect bite, or latex;
• Autoimmune disease;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Xolair can harm the fetus. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Xolair may pass into your breast milk. There may be a drug interaction between Xolair and other drugs, such as bioflavonoids, cholecalciferol, echinacea, fosteum, and galzin. Avoid drugs such as Addamel N, Aqua-E, peditrace, ubiquinone, and zincate.
