Levalbuterol belongs to the group of drugs called bronchodilators. It works by relaxing the muscles surrounding the airways, which helps to improve breathing by reducing shortness of breath. It comes as a liquid that must be taken using a nebulizer. Your doctor may recommend Xopenex (Levalbuterol) for other purposes not listed.
