Dosage

Anusol is available in the strength of 0.5 %/30 gm ointment and 10 mg/24 dose suppositories.

Usage

Anusol (Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate) is an over-the-counter medication used to relieve swelling, itching, and irritation of internal and external piles around the anus. A pile is a swelling containing enlarged blood vessels, which may resolve within a few days. If you experience other symptoms like bleeding and pain, you need treatment with Anusol. The drug may also be used with other drugs to treat ulcerative colitis. The active ingredient in Anusol is Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate. Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate belongs to a class of drugs called astringents. It works by reducing the swelling in hemorrhoid tissue to shrink piles and relieve itching and pain.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Anusol are dryness around the rectum and mild irritation at the application site.

Stop using Anusol and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Severe headache;
• Severe rectal pain;
• Signs of an infection, such as fever or chills

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Anusol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Anusol is an ointment and suppository. Use Anusol exactly as your doctor prescribes. Do not take the ointment or suppository by mouth. Anusol ointment works for internal and external piles. If you are using the ointment, wash and dry the affected area before application. The drug comes with an applicator. Use the applicator to apply the recommended dose of the ointment into the anus. Use your finger to apply a small amount of the ointment onto the surface of your anus. The ointment should be used in the morning, at bedtime, and after each bowel movement. Avoid getting Anusol into your eyes, nose, or mouth. If the drug gets into these areas, rinse with plenty of clean water immediately. Anusol suppository is for internal piles. Wash and dry the affected anal area before using the suppository. Try to empty your bowel and bladder before using the medicine. Remove the wrapper before inserting the suppository. Insert the suppository into your anus. Wash your hands immediately after using the drug.

Before you start using Anusol, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding;
• Have a skin infection;
• Have diabetes;
• Have rectal bleeding

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Your doctor will prescribe Anusol in pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. The use of Anusol should be avoided in children less than 18 years old. There may be a drug interaction between Anusol and other drugs such as Alogliptin, Metformin, Semaglutide, Tolazamide, Insulin, etc.
