Axert tablets contain the active ingredient almotriptan, which is a type of medicine called a serotonin (or 5HT) agonist. Serotonin (or 5HT) agonists are also commonly known as a “triptans”. It is a painkiller specifically used to relieve migraine attacks. The actual cause behind migraine attacks is not known or understood to any extent, and it is believed it is the blood vessels widening and opening up in the brain causes the pain associated with migraine headaches. Almotriptan relieves this pain by causing the blood vessels in the brain to narrow.

Axert Side Effects

The possible Axert side effects include:
• Dizziness, drowsiness;
• Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting;
• Mild headache;
• Pressure or heavy feeling in the body;
• Warmth, redness or tingling skin.

More serious side effects may include:
• Chest pain, feeling short of breath;
• Feeling of pain in the jaw or neck;
• Numbness or tingling, blue color to the skin;
• Sudden severe headache;
• Sudden numbness or weakness, vision problems, confusion;
• Sudden and severe stomach pain, bloody diarrhea.

Axert Safety in Pregnancy and Children

Before purchasing, tell your doctor if you have any of the following medical conditions:
• Any heart or blood pressure disease or condition;
• Ischemic bowel disease;
• History of heart disease;
• Liver or kidney disease;
• Severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Axert is pregnancy category C, and it is not known if it can cause harm to an unborn baby. You must consult your doctor if you are planning to conceive, are pregnant or are breastfeeding. It is suitable for adults and children over 12 years only. You must consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications as they may interact with Axert, including antidepressants, heart or blood pressure medications, antibiotics, antifungals and HIV/AIDs medications.
