Axert Details (Brand and Generic) offers the generic Almotriptan from Canada. The brand version is not available. Our customers may also purchase other Migraine medications such as Amerge and Relpax.

The generic Axert (Almotriptan) is available in the strength of 6.25 mg and 1.25 mg tablets.

Axert (Almotriptan) is a prescription medication used to treat migraine headaches in adults and adolescents over the age of 12 years old. It helps relieve headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other symptoms of migraine. Almotriptan belongs to the class of drugs called triptans. This medication works by affecting certain natural chemicals called serotonin, which narrows blood vessels in the brain; which alleviates the symptoms of migraines. Taking Axert at the first sign of a migraine headache can help you return to your normal routine. It may also decrease your need to take any other pain medications.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Axert may include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, and tingling, numbness, or prickling sensations.

Stop using Axert and call your doctor immediately if you have:
• Blood circulation problems;
• Blue colored fingers, nails, and toes;
• Cold feeling of hands or feet;
• High levels of serotonin in the body;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Stomach or intestinal problems

The above information is a summary and may not contain all the side effect information. If you still have questions about side effects, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist so they can address all your concerns.

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Axert if you are allergic to Almotriptan, or if you have:
• A History of heart disease, blood vessel problems, or coronary disease;
• Headache that is typical or similar to your usual migraine symptoms;
• Severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure

Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history and if you have ever had:
• Having diabetes, high cholesterol, family history of heart disease and other risk factors for coronary artery disease;
• Heart rhythm problem, high blood pressure;
• Liver or kidney disease;
• Sulfa drug allergy

Let your doctor know if you have more than 4 headaches in a period of 30 days; this means this medication is not effective enough to treat your migraine attacks. If you take this medication with any other drugs that can affect the serotonin levels in the body, you may be at higher risk for “serotonin syndrome,” where serotonin accumulation occurs, leading to high levels of serotonin in your body. Serotonin syndrome is rare but can be life-threatening if left untreated. Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all the medications you are taking, including prescription medications, over-the-counter products, herbal supplements, and vitamins. Especially if you are taking one or more of the following medications: medicine for nausea/vomiting, antidepressant, antipsychotic, and opioid pain medication. Axert is pregnancy category C, and it is not known if it can cause harm to an unborn baby. You must consult your doctor if you are planning to conceive, are pregnant or are breastfeeding. It is suitable for adults and children over 12 years only.
