Beyaz 3mg;0.02mg;0.451mg Information

Beyaz at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

The manufacturer of Beyaz is Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc. Bayer is a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Germany, with operations across Canada and internationally.

There is currently no generic equivalent available for Beyaz at this pharmacy.

Dosage:

Beyaz is a monophasic combined oral contraceptive dispensed in this strength and form:
• Tablet: 28-day blister pack containing 24 days of active hormone tablets followed by 4 days of inactive folate-only tablets.

One tablet is taken orally at the same time every day, in the order directed on the blister pack, for 28 consecutive days. Treatment may be started on Day 1 of the menstrual cycle (Day 1 Start) or on the first Sunday after the period begins (Sunday Start). Beyaz is preferably taken after the evening meal or at bedtime with liquid if needed, but can be taken without regard to meals. A new 28-day pack is started on the day after the last light orange tablet, regardless of whether withdrawal bleeding has occurred or ended. A non-hormonal backup method of contraception is recommended for the first 7 consecutive days of Beyaz use when starting for the first time or when restarting after a lapse.

Usage:

Beyaz (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol/levomefolate calcium) is a combination oral contraceptive with four approved indications. It is used to prevent pregnancy in females of reproductive age. It is also used to treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) for females of reproductive potential who choose to use an oral contraceptive for contraception. PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) characterized by markedly depressed mood, anxiety, affective lability (mood swings), and persistent anger or irritability during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. Beyaz is also used to treat moderate acne vulgaris in females of reproductive potential who are at least 14 years of age, have achieved menarche, and who desire an oral contraceptive for birth control. Beyaz should not be used for acne treatment in women who also do not want hormonal contraception. The drug is also used to raise folate levels for the purpose of reducing the risk of a neural tube defect (NTD, such as spina bifida) in a pregnancy that may be conceived while taking Beyaz or shortly after discontinuing it. However, folate supplementation should be maintained after discontinuing Beyaz if pregnancy is being planned, as levomefolate calcium levels decline after stopping the pill. Beyaz does not protect against HIV (AIDS) or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Mechanism of Action
Beyaz contains three active ingredients with distinct mechanisms of action. Drospirenone (progestin component), combined with ethinyl estradiol, suppresses pituitary gonadotropin release (FSH and LH), inhibiting ovulation. It also thickens cervical mucus and alters the endometrium, reducing the likelihood of implantation. Due to its mild antimineralocorticoid properties, drospirenone helps to counteract estrogen-induced fluid retention, minimizing bloating and water weight. Additionally, drospirenone exhibits anti-androgenic activity, reducing sebum production to effectively treat acne and decrease related symptoms such as hirsutism and seborrhoea.

Ethinyl estradiol (estrogen component) contributes to ovulation suppression, promotes endometrial stability, and raises sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels. Levomefolate calcium (folate component) is the ready-to-use, active form of folate that does not require metabolic conversion. It helps maintain continuous folate supplementation throughout the cycle, including the hormone-free interval. Adequate folate levels before and during early pregnancy are essential to reduce the risk of neural tube defects.

Take Beyaz exactly as your doctor prescribes, following the instructions on the product packaging. If vomiting or severe diarrhea occurs within 3–4 hours of taking a tablet, treat this as a missed pill.

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions. Before starting Beyaz, it is essential to discuss all possible side effects, risks, and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects:

The information below outlines potential side effects of Beyaz (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol/levomefolate calcium). It is not an exhaustive list, and individual reactions can vary.

Common side effects: These are common side effects of Beyaz; other side effects are possible. Contact your doctor promptly if any side effects are persistent, worsening, or concerning, or if you experience any other concerning symptoms.
• Breast pain or tenderness
• Fatigue
• Headache or migraine
• Menstrual irregularities, including breakthrough bleeding or spotting, heavier or lighter periods, or missed withdrawal bleeding
• Weight changes

Serious Side Effects: Seek immediate medical attention or call emergency services if you experience any of the following symptoms:
• Gallbladder disease: Severe or persistent upper right abdominal pain. COCs may accelerate or worsen pre-existing gallbladder disease.
• High blood pressure: A significant unexplained rise in blood pressure.
• High potassium (Hyperkalemia): Symptoms include muscle weakness, palpitations, numbness or tingling, or an abnormal heart rate.
• Liver problems: Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, or severe upper abdominal pain. Discontinue Beyaz if jaundice develops.
• Severe allergic reaction (Anaphylaxis): Hives, rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing.
• Severe depression: New or worsening severe depression or suicidal ideation, discontinue and seek medical or mental health support.
• Venous Thromboembolism (VTE): Pain, swelling, redness, or warmth in a leg (deep vein thrombosis/DVT), sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, or coughing up blood (pulmonary embolism), sudden vision changes (retinal vein thrombosis).

Contraindications:

The following is not an exhaustive list of contraindications. Before starting Beyaz, it is crucial to discuss all your medical conditions, past and present, and all medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not take Beyaz/drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol/levomefolate calcium if:
• Adrenal insufficiency: Drospirenone’s antimineralocorticoid activity may interfere with adrenal hormone regulation.
• Allergies: You have a known hypersensitivity to drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate calcium, or any ingredient in the tablet formulation.
• Atrial fibrillation or thrombogenic cardiac arrhythmias.
• Benign or malignant liver tumors, or any active liver disease.
• Breast cancer: A current diagnosis of, or history of, breast cancer or other hormone-sensitive malignancy.
• Cerebrovascular disease: A history of stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).
• Coronary artery disease or myocardial infarction.
• Deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, now or in the past.
• Diabetes mellitus with vascular involvement.
• Headaches with focal neurological symptoms, or migraines with aura at any age, or migraines without aura in women aged 35 and older.
• Renal impairment: Beyaz is contraindicated in women with impaired renal function due to the risk of hyperkalemia from drospirenone’s antimineralocorticoid activity.
• Thrombogenic valvular heart disease: For example, subacute bacterial endocarditis with valvular disease.
• Uncontrolled hypertension or hypertension with vascular disease.
• Undiagnosed abnormal uterine bleeding.

Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, past and present, before starting Beyaz. This is crucial as certain conditions affect the drug’s safety.
• A history of depression or mood disorders
• Conditions that predispose to hyperkalemia (high potassium) - including well-controlled chronic kidney disease, medications that raise potassium
• Diabetes mellitus without vascular involvement
• Gallbladder disease or a family history of gallstones
• Hereditary angioedema — estrogens may exacerbate symptoms

Drug Interactions:

Before taking Beyaz, discuss all potential risks and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist. For complete, up-to-date information, please refer to the FDA prescribing information at https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2012/022532s004lbl.pdf.

Provide your doctor with a complete list of all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, vitamins, herbal supplements, recreational drugs, and any significant dietary changes, as these may interact with Beyaz. Beyaz may interact with other medicines, including but not limited to:
• ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists (ARBs), aldosterone antagonists, and heparin: These drugs can increase serum potassium levels.
• Antifolate drugs (e.g., methotrexate, trimethoprim, pyrimethamine, and antiepileptics such as phenytoin and carbamazepine)
• Antiretroviral drugs (HIV medications): Certain HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir, nelfinavir) and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors may significantly alter estrogen and progestin levels, either decreasing contraceptive efficacy or increasing hormone-related side effects. Use a backup contraceptive method and monitor carefully.
• Atorvastatin and rosuvastatin
• CYP3A4 enzyme inducers reduce contraceptive effectiveness.
• Cyclosporine, prednisolone, and theophylline: Ethinyl estradiol may inhibit their metabolism.
• Hepatitis C combination drug regimens (Contraindicated): Beyaz must be discontinued before starting ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir with or without dasabuvir
• Lamotrigine (an anticonvulsant): Combined oral contraceptives significantly reduce plasma lamotrigine concentrations by inducing glucuronidation. This may reduce seizure control.
• NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen) and potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone): May further increase potassium levels when combined with drospirenone. Monitor potassium levels closely.
• St. John’s Wort: Induces CYP3A4 and can reduce plasma concentrations of both drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol, potentially causing breakthrough bleeding and reduced contraceptive efficacy.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

Beyaz is contraindicated during pregnancy. Discontinue Beyaz immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Beyaz is not recommended for breastfeeding women. COCs can reduce the quantity and quality of breast milk. Small amounts of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol may pass into breast milk.

Use in Children:

Beyaz is not indicated for use before menarche. For the treatment of moderate acne, Beyaz is approved for females of reproductive potential who are at least 14 years of age and have achieved menarche. Beyaz is not for use in males.
