Product Details
Geodon (Ziprasidone) is an antipsychotic medication used to treat schizophrenia and the manic symptoms of bipolar (manic depression) in adults and children over the age of 10. It is available as an oral medication or as an intramuscular injection. Geodon works by elevating and reducing levels of certain chemicals in the brain, which in turn can suppress or prevent you from experiencing symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disordered thoughts, or extreme mood swings.
Common side effects of Geodon include dizziness or drowsiness, nausea or upset stomach, diarrhea or constipation, changes in vision, restlessness, tremors or twitching, or cold symptoms. Contact your doctor if you notice more serious side effects such as light-headedness, chest pain or irregular heartbeats, uncontrollable muscle movements in your face, flu symptoms, mouth sores, red or swollen gums, signs of high blood sugar, or very stiff or rigid muscles, high fever, sweating, confusion, or agitation.
To make sure Geodon is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had any heart problems, heart attack or stroke, bone marrow or blood cell disorder, breast cancer, low levels of potassium or magnesium, diabetes, seizures or epilepsy, liver or kidney disease, or suicidal thoughts. Do not use Geodon if you are allergic to ziprasidone, or if you have a heart rhythm disorder, a personal or family history of long QT syndrome, untreated heart failure, or if you have recently had a heart attack.
