Hylo Eye Care Information

Hylo Eye Care at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

Ursapharm manufactures Hylo Eye Care in Germany, and Candorvision distributes it in Canada. The Hylo-Forte formulation is also supplied from the United Kingdom. Hylo Eye Care is a line of lubricating eye drops based on sodium hyaluronate, used to relieve the symptoms of dry eye.

There is no generic equivalent of Hylo Eye Care.

Hylo Eye Care Strength and Format:

Hylo Eye Care is available in the following forms:
• Hylo Lubricating Eye Drops Mini: 0.1% Sodium Hyaluronate (1 mg/mL), available in 10 mL and 5 mL (mini).
• Hylo-Dual Lubricating Eye Drops: 0.05% Sodium Hyaluronate + 2% Ectoin (0.5 mg/mL + 20 mg/mL), available in 10 mL and 5 mL (mini), containing sodium hyaluronate and ectoin.
• Hylo-Forte: 0.2% Sodium Hyaluronate (2 mg/mL), 10 mL, a prescription-strength formulation.
• Hylo-Gel Lubricating Eye Drops: 0.2% Sodium Hyaluronate (2 mg/ml), 10 mL, a higher-viscosity gel formulation.

Instill one drop into the affected eye as often as needed for symptom relief, typically several times daily. Wait at least 15 minutes between Hylo Eye Care and any other eye drop to avoid one washing out the other.

Usage:

Hylo Eye Care is used to relieve eye symptoms, including burning, itching, tearing, a foreign body sensation, and general eye irritation. These symptoms often result from insufficient lubrication of the eye's surface. Allergies to pollen, animal hair, or dust can also trigger them. The Hylo-Dual formulation is particularly suited to dry eyes with additional irritation from allergy-related inflammation.

Mechanism of Action
Sodium hyaluronate, the primary active ingredient across the Hylo Eye Care range, is a naturally occurring substance in the eye with excellent water-binding properties. Once applied, it forms an even, stable film over the cornea and conjunctiva that supplements the natural tear film and provides long-lasting lubrication. In the Hylo-Dual formulation, a second ingredient called ectoin, a substance produced by microorganisms to protect themselves from drying out in extreme environments, works alongside sodium hyaluronate to stabilize the oily (lipid) layer of the tear film, reduce tear evaporation, and calm inflammatory symptoms such as itching and burning. All Hylo products use a specialized multi-dose airless bottle design, making them preservative-free and phosphate-free while allowing a 6-month shelf life after opening.

Use Hylo Eye Care exactly as your doctor prescribes or as directed on the product packaging. Hylo products are preservative-free and compatible with both hard and soft contact lenses. Standard Hylo and Hylo-Dual can generally be applied while wearing contact lenses. Higher-viscosity formulations like Hylo-Gel and Hylo-Forte may cause brief visual blurring immediately after application; allow a few blinks for vision to clear, or apply 15 minutes before inserting contact lenses.

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions. Before starting Hylo Eye Care, it is essential to discuss all possible side effects, risks, and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects:

The information below outlines potential side effects of Hylo Eye Care. It is not an exhaustive list, and individual reactions can vary.

Common side effects: These are common side effects of Hylo Eye Care; other side effects are possible. Contact your doctor promptly if any side effects are persistent, worsening, or concerning, or if you experience any other concerning symptoms.
• Brief blurring of vision immediately after applying the drops, particularly with higher-viscosity formulations (such as Hylo-Gel or Hylo-Forte)
• Mild, temporary stinging upon instillation

Serious Side Effects: Seek immediate medical attention or call emergency services if you experience any of the following symptoms:
• Eye Pain, Significant Redness, or Vision Changes that do not improve.
• Severe Allergic Reaction: Rash, itching, or swelling of the face, eyelids, or throat.
• Signs of Eye Infection: Discharge, crusting, or worsening redness.

Contraindications:

The following is not an exhaustive list of contraindications. Before starting Hylo Eye Care, discuss all your medical conditions (past and present) and all medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not use Hylo Eye Care if:
• Allergies: You have a known hypersensitivity to sodium hyaluronate, ectoin, or any other ingredient in the formulation.

Tell your doctor about any relevant eye conditions before starting Hylo Eye Care. This is crucial, as certain conditions may require specific medical evaluation.
• An active eye infection.
• Recent eye surgery.

Drug Interactions:

Before using Hylo Eye Care, discuss any other eye drops or medications you use with your doctor or pharmacist. If you use other prescription eye drops, wait at least 15 minutes between applying Hylo Eye Care and the other product, since using two eye drops too close together can wash out the first one before it has a chance to work. Hylo Eye Care is often used alongside other dry eye therapies as part of a broader treatment plan.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:

Because Hylo Eye Care acts locally on the eye’s surface with minimal systemic absorption, it is generally considered a reasonable option during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding so they can confirm this is the right choice for you.

Use in Children:

Hylo Eye Care is used in children for dry eye symptoms, but a doctor should guide any use, particularly for the prescription-strength Hylo-Forte formulation.
