Dosage

Usage

Jakafi (Ruxolitinib Phosphate) is a prescription medication used to treat people with intermediate or high-risk myelofibrosis (a bone marrow disease), including primary myelofibrosis, post-polycythemia vera myelofibrosis and post-essential thrombocythemia myelofibrosis. Ruxolitinib is also used to treat a problem that may occur after a stem cell or bone marrow transplant (graft versus host disease). The active ingredient in Jakafi is Ruxolitinib Phosphate. Ruxolitinib. Ruxolitinib Phosphate belongs to the group of medicine called Kinase Inhibitors, Antineoplastics (JAK Inhibitors). It works by blocking the signals that cause cancer cells to multiply. This helps to stop the spread of cancer cells. In addition, it works to treat graft versus host disease by blocking the signals of the cells that cause GVHD.

The common side effects of Jakafi are nausea, dizziness, thrombocytopenia, headache, anaemia and easy bruising.

Stop using Jakafi and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Ruxolitinib, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or have any other allergies. Jakafi is dosed orally and can be administered with or without food, usually twice daily. It would be best if you used the Jakafi tablet according to your prescription. Ruxolitinib increases your risk of anemia (low blood level), thrombocytopenia and neutropenia. You should avoid taking grapefruit when you are using a Jakafi tablet. Taking your medication with Jakafi may worsen the side effects. Your doctor will take your blood sample before starting you on Jakafi medication. You should know that your dosage is based on your medical condition, laboratory test results, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Do not stop taking Ruxolitinib without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped.

Before you start using Jakafi, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Active serious infection;
• Bleeding disorder;
• Herpes zoster;
• kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis;
• Skin cancer

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Jakafi can harm the unborn baby. If you become pregnant while taking Ruxolitinib, call your doctor. You should not breastfeed while taking Ruxolitinib for two weeks after your final dose. There may be a drug interaction between Jakafi and other drugs such as carbamazepine, amiodarone, clotrimazole, efavirenz, haloperidol, iloperidone and antifungals.
