Menopur (Menotropins) is a prescription medication used to treat certain fertility problems in women and helps women to get pregnant. It provides follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) that help healthy ovaries make eggs. This medication is usually used in combination with human chorionic gonadotropin-hCG to help you become pregnant by bringing about the growth and release of a mature egg (ovulation). The active substance in Menopur is Menotropins. Menotropins belong to the class of medication called Gonadotropins (Ovulation Stimulators). It works by causing the production of LH and FSH from the pituitary gland, which then stimulates gonadal function, including spermatogenesis and ovulation.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Menopur are headache, mild stomach pain or bloating, redness, pain at the injection site, breast tenderness, or dizziness.

Stop using Menopur and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Difficulty in passing urine or little urine;
• Severe nausea and vomiting;
• Severe headache;
• Severe pain or reaction at the site of injection;
• Stomach pain or bloating

Warnings and Interactions

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or other products containing follicle-stimulating, luteinizing hormones, or any other allergies. Menopur is an injection that is injected once a day into the stomach at the same time every day. It can be administered at home. Use a new needle and syringe each time you give yourself Menopur. Follow your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor if there is anything you do not understand about your medication. Make sure you inject Menopur as soon as you've finished preparing it. Throw away unused medicine in the vials after injecting your dose. Don't ever try to save or reuse vials of Menopur that have been mixed. Wash your hands before and after injecting yourself. Inform your doctor if you become pregnant. This medication must not be used during pregnancy.

Before you start using Menopur, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Cancer of the breast and ovary;
• Infertility not due to lack of ovulation;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Ovarian cyst or enlarged ovary;
• Polycystic ovarian disease;
• Pituitary adenoma or tumors;
• Premature ovarian failure;
• Thyroid disorder

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Although menotropins help women get pregnant, it would be best to know that it can harm an unborn baby or cause congenital disabilities. Do not use menotropins if you are already pregnant. It is not known whether menotropins pass into breast milk. Do not use menotropins without first talking to your doctor if you are breastfeeding a baby. There may be a drug interaction between Menopur and other drugs, such as other similar medications. Store Menopur injection vials at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Do not freeze this medication.
