Usage

Nidagel (Metronidazole) is a prescription medication used to treat women with vaginal infection (bacterial vaginosis). Symptoms of bacterial infections in the vagina include pain, burning, itching, thin white vaginal discharge, and burning when peeing. You may have a bacterial infection in your abdomen and intestine if you experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. The active ingredient in Nidagel is Metronidazole. Metronidazole belongs to a class of medications called nitroimidazole antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria and parasites or preventing their growth. Nidagel only works for bacterial infections. This drug will not treat fungal infections or yeast infections.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Nidagel are cramps, headache, heavy bleeding, appetite loss, skin irritation, vomiting, temporary skin redness, and dry mouth.

Stop using Nidagel and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Burning when urinating;
• Itching, pain, or stinging of the genital area;
• Pain during sexual intercourse;

Vaginal medicines usually leak out of the vagina during treatment. Use a sanitary napkin to prevent the drug from staining your clothing. Do not use tampons. Wear cotton panties for better circulation. Do not have sexual intercourse while using Nidagel. Before you start using Nidagel, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• A history of blood disorders;
• Aseptic meningitis;
• Eye disease or vision problems;
• Have hypoadrenalism;
• Have hypothyroidism;
• Liver disease;
• Seizures or epilepsy

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Metronidazole may affect the development of a fetus. This medication should not be used in pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Nidagel passes into breast milk. You should not breastfeed while taking this drug.
