Usage

Ongentys is used with levodopa and carbidopa in people with Parkinson’s disease who are having ‘OFF’ episodes. Ongentys contains the active substance opicapone. This medication belongs to a class of medications called catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors. It is used to treat Parkinson’s disease and associated movement problems. It works by preventing the breakdown of levodopa so that more levodopa can get to the brain and turn into dopamine that fuels normal movement and decreases Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's disease is a progressive disease of the nervous system that causes shaking and affects your movement. Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It should be taken one time each day at bedtime. It is not known if Ongentys is safe and effective in children. Do not eat 1 hour before taking Ongentys and do not eat for at least 1 hour after taking Ongentys. Do not stop taking Ongentys or change your dose before talking to your healthcare provider.
