Cyclosporin eye drop also effectively treats chronic recurrent conjunctivitis resulting from auto-immune eye disease. The active ingredient in Optimmune is Cyclosporin. Cyclosporin belongs to the class of drugs called immunomodulators. It reduces inflammation, increases tear production, and helps to minimize damage to the tear glands. It is essential to know that tears are important for keeping a dog's eyes healthy and providing lubrication and nourishment. Therefore, you should talk to your veterinary doctor before using Optimmune for your dogs.

How long does it take Optimmune to work?

Studies by the manufacturer of Optimmune pet show that an increase in tear fluid production is expected within 10 days from the start of treatment. However, in some cases it can take up to six weeks before an improvement is evident. This is reviewed by Dr Pippa Elliott, BVMS MRCVS.
