It is a combination therapy that consists of Citric Acid, Magnesium Oxide, and Sodium Picosulfate. Magnesium oxide and citric acid combine to form magnesium citrate, an osmotic laxative that increases water in the colon. Picosulfate sodium belongs to the class of medications called stimulant laxatives, which activate the colon and stimulate the muscles in the colon to contract, causing a bowel movement. The combined effect clears out the bowels. Pico-Salax usually produces a bowel movement within 2 to 3 hours, depending on your body's response.
