Product Details

Rydapt is a cancer medication that treats acute myeloid leukemia. It can also be used to treat certain rare blood disorders, such as systemic mastocytosis and mast cell leukemia, or other cancers affecting the blood, bone marrow, or lymphatic tissue. It works by interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells.

The common side effects of Rydapt include: fever, flu-like symptoms, mouth sores, unusual bleeding or bruising, cold symptoms (stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat), trouble breathing, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipations, diarrhea, muscle or bone pain, headache, feeling tired, or swelling.

The more serious side effects may include:

• High blood pressure
• Low blood cell counts
• Pain or sores in or around your mouth, redness inside the mouth, or sore throat
• Signs of allergic reaction
• Sudden chest pain or discomfort, wheezing, dry cough, feeling short of breath

You should not take Rydapt if you are allergic to Midostaurin. Before you start taking Rydapt, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you currently take including OTC and herbal medications.

Both men and women using Rydapt should use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy. Do not use Rydapt if you are pregnant or nursing. It can harm an unborn or nursing infant. Be sure to use backup birth control while on this medication, and for 4 months after quitting, as it can make hormonal birth control less effective and linger in the body. Do not nurse an infant for a minimum of four months after the last dose.

Be sure to take Rydapt exactly as your doctor describes for you. Follow all instructions that come with your medication. You may need frequent blood tests (every 1-4 weeks) to make sure your body is responding to the medication.

Rydapt is usually taken 2x per day and (once every 12 hours), with food. Take the doses at regular intervals to keep a steady amount of the medication in your body at all times.

Do not crush or open Rydapt capsules.

Store them in the original container at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

There can be interactions between Rydapt and other medications. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Rydapt.

To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Breathing problems
• Lung disease

Questions and Answers

1. I feel nauseous on Rydapt. What can I do?
Answer: You may be given another medication to prevent nausea or vomiting, if you find you are nauseous while taking Rydapt. Tell your doctor about all symptoms you’re experiencing. Do not adjust the dosage or change how you are taking the medication without your doctor’s advice.

2. What happens if I vomit after taking Rydapt?
Answer: If you vomit shortly after taking Rydapt, don’t take another dose. Wait until your next scheduled dose because it is impossible to tell how much of the medication was absorbed in the body before vomiting.

3. Is it safe to take Rydapt and have unprotected sex?
Answer: Rydapt is known to cause birth defects in an infant if the mother OR father are using Rydapt. Both men and women need to use effective birth control methods to prevent pregnancy while on this medication and for another 4 months after the last dose.
