Dosage

Sycrest is available in the strength of 5 mg and 10 mg sublingual tablets.

Usage

Sycrest (Asenapine) is a prescription medication for treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in adults. Bipolar is a condition in which there are periods when you feel low (depression) and periods of high (mania or hypomania). The active ingredient in Sycrest is Asenapine. Asenapine belongs to the group of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It works by restoring certain chemicals in the brain that restore the mood.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Sycrest are nausea, vomiting, headache, somnolence, dizziness, dry mouth, and rapid weight gain.

Stop using Sycrest and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Poor vision;
• Oral ulcers, blisters, peeling/sloughing, and inflammation after prolonged use;
• Syncopal attacks or recurrent falls;
• Unusual movements, shaking, feeling weak, changes in the way things taste in your mouth;
• Unintended weight gain

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Asenapine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or have any other allergies. Asenapine is a sublingual tablet to dissolve under the tongue. Do not now chew or swallow the tablet. It is usually taken twice a day or according to your prescription label. Take Asenapine at around the exact times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor to explain any part you do not understand. Do not take more or less of it or more often than your doctor prescribes. Your doctor may start you on low-dose Sycrest, depending on the severity of your condition, duration, and response to treatment. Treating Bipolar disorders often requires careful monitoring to ensure you get the best possible benefit from Asenapine. Do not miss your clinic appointments so your doctor can check—your response to treatment from time to time. Asenapine may cause a sudden rise in your blood sugar; if you have diabetes, check your blood sugar regularly. Do not open the tablet until it is time to use them. Inform your doctor if there are no changes in your condition or if it worsens.

Before you start using Sycrest, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have the following:
• Any other medical conditions such as Parkinson's disease, dementia, or depression;
• Breathing problems due to asthma, tuberculosis, or other lung diseases;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Difficulty with urination due to prostate enlargement or carcinoma;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, Sycrest may be prescribed if needed. However, it would be best to know that babies born to mothers who used Asenapine medication during the third trimester may develop symptoms including muscle stiffness or shakiness, drowsiness, feeding, or constant crying. If you notice any of these symptoms in your newborn, especially during their first month, inform your doctor right away. It is unknown if Asenapine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Do not give Sycrest to children below ten years of age. There may be a drug interaction between Sycrest and other drugs such as dronedarone, thalidomide, and thioridazine. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
