Usage

Treanda (Bendamustine) is a prescription medication used to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). CLL is a type of cancer that causes the bone marrow to produce too many lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell). Bendamustine is also used to treat indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma after trying other medicines without successfully treating the condition. The active ingredient in Treanda is Bendamustine. Bendamustine belongs to the class of medications called alkylating agents. It works by killing existing cancer cells and limiting the growth of new cancer cells.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Treanda are diarrhea, mouth sores, muscle weakness, nausea, tiredness, and vomiting.

Stop using Treanda and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Easy bruising or bleeding;
• Pale skin;
• Signs of liver problems such as vomiting, appetite loss, upper right-sided stomach pain, yellow of your skin or eyes;
• Signs of low blood cell counts such as fever, chills, mouth sores, unusual bleeding, shortness of breath;
• Swelling of the ankles, feet, or hands

Warnings and Interactions

Before receiving Bendamustine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to other alkylating agents, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, mannitol, or have any other allergies. Treanda is an injection. Your doctor will administer Bendamustine as an infusion into a vein. This drug is usually given for 2 days in a row every 21 to 28 days. You may receive up to 8 treatments in total, depending on the condition being treated. If Treanda leaks out of the vein into the surrounding area, it may cause serious skin and tissue damage. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience irritation, pain, or redness at the injection site. Bendamustine can pass into bodily fluids (urine, feces, and vomit). For at least 48 hours after receiving a dose, avoid allowing your body fluids to contact your hands or other surfaces. Treanda may impair your reactions. Avoid driving or other hazardous activities until you know how the drug affects you. Bendamustine may make you bruise or bleed easily. To reduce your risk of getting cut, bruised, or injured, use caution with sharp objects and avoid activities like contact sports. This drug can worsen current infections or make you more likely to get infections. Stay away from anyone with contagious infections such as chickenpox, flu, or COVID-19.

Before you start using Treanda, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Become pregnant or nursing a child;
• Have a weak immune system;
• Have blood or bone marrow disorders;
• Have electrolyte imbalance;
• Have hepatitis B;
• Have herpes zoster (shingles);
• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver disease;
• Have tuberculosis

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Treanda can harm an unborn baby or cause congenital disabilities if the mother or father is using the drug. If you are a woman, do not use Bendamustine while pregnant. You may need to have a negative pregnancy test before starting this medication. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while using Bendamustine and for at least 6 months after your last dose. If you are a man, use effective birth control if your sex partner can get pregnant. Keep using birth control for at least 3 months after your last dose. Bendamustine may affect fertility in men. However, it is important to use birth control while using this drug to prevent pregnancy. Bendamustine may pass into breast milk. It would be best to know that breastfeeding is not recommended while using this drug and for at least 1 week after your last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
